Fashion Forward in Spring 2010

March 19, 2010 · Leave a Comment

It’s that time of year again! Alberta Fashion Week. Trunkshows, fashion shows and great events across the city. Make sure you check out some fashion shows to see what Alberta designers are doing for Spring!

Some of the best trends of 2010 were already show on the international catwalks of Milan, Paris and New York. Throughout Fashion Week, we will share some that you can wear all over Calgary!

Feathers

What stays in Vegas, doesn’t stay in Vegas this Spring! Feathers are in style for everyone. Make sure you combine them with classic pieces such as plain ruffle tops or a white tank top. Leave the glitter and heavy patterns in the closest while wearing feathers. Well…unless you are a showgirl.

Most of us cannot afford gorgeous couture like this. Want to rock the feathers on a budget? Check out Forever XXI:

Eat! Eat! My New Breakfast Favorite.

March 16, 2010 · 1 Comment

Craving a good breakfast? Last week I was tired of burning my toast and finding pieces of eggshell in my omelettes. So I decided to cheat on my kitchen and get me some at Eat! Eat! in Inglewood.

This bright, simple eatery features an amazing breakfast and lunch menu. Think porridge, yoghurt and eggs benny as well as sandwiches and burgers. I went for the one egg breakfast, my mountain man went for the two eggs. It came with some fruit, great toast, bacon and crispy potatoes. Cute little touch: they serve the toast with home made blueberry jam. Yum.

I have heard that the service is inconsistent, but when we were there it was great. If you are impatient, go on weekdays as line-ups form on the weekend.

Move over Nellies. Eat!Eat! is my new BFF. -L-

The How and the What to CL Theory

March 16, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Since starting this blog, we’ve received a lot of comments as to why there is a need to discover the ins and outs of Calgary Lifestyle. Was there, perhaps, something wrong with Calgary? Is Calgary not good enough? Are we anti Stampede?
Au contraire! We love Calgary! We just know that there is alot more to this city than strictly cowboys though. Don’t get us wrong. We don’t mind those fine cowboys at all! In fact, I for one, am counting down the days till Stampede. The warm weather, mini donuts, concerts, dressing like a cowgirl….I love it all!
But underneath that country image lies a city that has so much more to offer. We have amazing art galleries, vintage shopping, unique places to eat, winebars, festivals….the list goes on. While big cities like Vancouver and Toronto are praised for these things, Calgary often seems frowned upon as a trendy city. And Calvin and I are set to change that.

That is why we bring you this blog that brings together all the fabulous hotspots, events, trends and fashion that Calgary has to offer. The ultimate lifestyle compilation for Calgarians and visitors who want more than just beef on a bun and a plaid shirt. We can enjoy those things in 114 days and 4 hours from now. -L-

Calgary: Question Mark

March 8, 2010 · 2 Comments

Searching for the next best thing
Here is the theory: There has to be more to Calgary. Living here for years you find yourself ridiculously bored, or on the other extreme you still feel like a stranger.

When it comes to cost of living, we are on the same level as Vancouver and Toronto but in terms of culture, fashion, nightlife, entertainment and all the other societal praises…. well we haven’t given up on the city yet. We are both determined to explore and find defining and memorable moments here. Maybe it is just to ourselves that we are proving a point; that Calgary is more than stampede city.
